Bermuda rejoins CTO after Covid-19 hiatus
Bermuda has rejoined a Caribbean group that supports the growth of sustainable tourism within the region.
According to the Caribbean Tourism Organisation’s website, Bermuda officially rejoined the organisation “through a collaborative partnership with the Government of Bermuda and the Bermuda Tourism Authority”.
Bermuda was a member before the coronavirus pandemic struck in 2020.
Vance Campbell, the Minister of Tourism, said that the partnership “will be of great value as we continue to build a successful, sustainable tourism industry that helps grow our economy and provide exciting and empowering careers for Bermudians”.
He added: “As our tourism sector continues to recover following the difficult Covid years, it is important that we have access to and work with similar jurisdictions to share ideas that have been successful and can benefit Bermuda.”
According to its website, the CTO has 25 country members. Headquartered in Barbados, its goal is to position the Caribbean as “the most desirable, year-round, warm-weather destination, while pushing for sustainable tourism development. Its motto is ‘One Sea, One Voice, One Caribbean’.
Commenting on Bermuda’s entry to the group this week, the website said: “It is expected to help unify the Caribbean under a stronger goal — to expand tourism in a sustainable way, for the destinations, the local environments and the people that tourism impacts.
“Bermuda’s partnership with CTO should help find ways to support the destination’s own growth this year in a sustainable way.”
