Hamilton walking tours to resume

The Discover Hamilton walking tour will resume today (Photograph supplied)

A free walking tour will take residents and visitors throughout Hamilton starting today.

A statement from the City said its Discover Hamilton tour will run until December.

Hamilton’s award-winning town crier, Ed Christopher, will lead walkers through the city and highlight landmarks including Nellie’s Walk, Doctor’s Row and the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity.

The statement added: “As the City’s town crier for 30 years, Ed’s extensive knowledge is based on years of research and oral histories passed down through the generations.

“While his tours are widely popular among tourists, the City wants to encourage the island’s residents to come and explore their own backyard in 2024.”

Whether participants want to learn about architecture, local luminaries or life in pre-war Bermuda, Mr Christopher can tailor each experience to their interests.

Mr Christopher said the tour will leave people “brimming with newfound knowledge and anecdotes”.

He added: “Having grown up in the Pond Hill area, Hamilton's essence is ingrained in my being.

“Join me as we explore every nook and cranny, from bustling Front Street to the storied lanes of Court Street.”

The City recommended the tour for anyone “looking for a fun, educational and cultural excursion at no cost”.

The tours will leave from City Hall at 10.30am from Monday to Friday, and will run for about an hour and 45 minutes.

Water will be provided and gratuities accepted during the tours, which are all wheelchair accessible.

Athough not required, people can reserve a space for the tour by visiting cityofhamilton.bm, and can e-mail events@cityhall.bm for more information.

Mr Christopher, who also offers private and school tours, can be reached directly at towncrier@cityhall.bm.
