Bermuda greenlights BermudAir Canada routes
A Bermuda-based airline may be looking to expand into multiple Canadian cities this year, according to a recently published government notice.
A Civil Aviation Licence Exemption Order for BermudAir was published in the Official Gazette earlier this month, which allows the airline to offer scheduled services between Bermuda and a variety of destinations.
The list includes all five existing routes offered by the airline, including service to Boston, Orlando, Westchester, Fort Lauderdale and Baltimore.
It also grants the airline permission to offer direct services to Canadian destinations including Toronto, Montreal, Halifax and Hamilton, Ontario.
The order would also open the door to direct services to one additional destination in the US: Norfolk, Virginia.
The order came into effect this month and will remain valid until October 31.
A spokeswoman for the airline said: “We can confirm that Canada has been under consideration as part of our ongoing work for potential network expansion.”
BermudAir launched on September 1 last year with direct service to Boston and Westchester, New York. It has subsequently expanded to three other US destinations.
Earlier this month, the airline took off for Baltimore and, on Tuesday, BermudAir made its maiden journey to Orlando.
Adam Scott, the BermudAir founder and chief executive, said the new service would provide a new option for visitors, residents and businesses.
“Our team is excited to add this new service, which complements our Fort Lauderdale route,” Mr Scott said.
“It expands access for leisure and business travel to South Florida with more direct flights and connectivity.
“The level of inquiries we've had about this route, particularly regarding family travel outbound, indicates lots of interest, which is very encouraging.
“On behalf of our entire team, I’d like to thank our colleagues here in Orlando for their extensive support and co-operation and for the very warm welcome they’ve extended to us.”

Travellers were also offered treats and a flight pin to celebrate the occasion, while the BermudAir crew took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony with speeches.
