Food festival cancelled after falling victim to wet weather

A seafood festival in St George's that was rescheduled to this weekend has been cancelled because of expected wet weather.

The event was originally scheduled to be held last Sunday but was postponed by a week because of inclement conditions.

Organisers yesterday announced that the festival would be cancelled completely after the weather struck again.

According to the Bermuda Weather Service, an approaching front will bring wet weather by tomorrow.

Mayor of St George Quinell Francis said: “We are disappointed that we are unable to host the St George’s Seafood Festival this year.

“Tremendous efforts have been made by the corporation team and our partners, the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, in organising this event, and we have had the support of many community members and vendors.

“Unfortunately, the weather forecast does not indicate a dry, sunny day suitable for an outdoor event.”

Town manager Candy-Lee Foggo, added: “It is extremely rare for the Corporation of St George to cancel an event.

“Out of an abundance of caution and concern for public safety, we have decided to cancel the St George’s Seafood Festival.

“As this year’s event allowed for the advance purchase of food and drink tickets, any pre-purchased ticket holders will receive a refund directly to their card.

“Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to see you at our future events.”
