Cruise ship celebrates its inaugural Bermuda visit

Commodore Nick Nash of the Sky Princess exchanges a plaque with Wayne Furbert, the Minister of Transport (Photograph supplied)

The Minister of Transport welcomed the crew of the Sky Princess to the island last week as the ship made its inaugural visit to the island.

Wayne Furbert took part in a traditional plaque exchange to mark the occasion on Thursday alongside other officials.

“The Bermuda Government and its partners extend a warm welcome to the Sky Princess and look forward to continued collaboration with Princess Cruises to showcase Bermuda as a premier destination for visitors to our shores, especially this time of year,” Mr Furbert said.

The Sky Princess was first launched in 2019 and, while it was scheduled to arrive from Madeira last Thursday, it reached Dockyard a day earlier because of a medical emergency on board.

The Bermuda-registered vessel departed on Thursday with 3,395 passengers on board to its next destination in Florida.

The final ship of the 2024 schedule, the AIDAmar, is scheduled to arrive this weekend.
