Career fair held to showcase opportunities in hospitality
Job seekers looking for work in the hospitality industry took part in a career fair at the Hamilton Princess last week.
A government spokeswoman said that the fair attracted a diverse pool of candidates from seasoned professionals to those just entering the workforce.
Attendees had the chance to meet with hotel representatives, learn about different career paths and gain insight into the company's commitment to excellence and community involvement
She said the event highlighted the hotel's mission to connect guests to the beauty of Bermuda while “fostering a dynamic work environment”.
Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism and Transport, Culture and Sport, said: “While we celebrate the numbers that were shared this week by the Bermuda Tourism Authority — the impressive 15 per cent increase in leisure visitors and the record $531 million in visitor spending last year — what is of particular significance is the meaningful careers being built right here on our shores.”
Mr Darrell also noted the success of Jaquan Burrows, his former student, now a manager of housekeeping.
“Watching his journey from the classroom to managing a key department at one of Bermuda's flagship properties reminds me why we emphasise hospitality education in our schools,” he said.
“His story isn't just personal success — it's living proof that Bermudians can thrive at the highest levels of our tourism industry when given the right opportunities and training.”
