Dill claims win in New England

Bermuda middle distance runner Shaquille Dill topped a field of 52 athletes in the men’s 800 metres at the New England Indoor Track and Field Championships in Boston.Dill, 17, who won a gold medal at last year’s CAC Junior Championships, finished in one minute 53.05 seconds, nearly three seconds quicker than the time he set at the same event 12 months ago. Also competing at last weekend’s meet held at the Harvard University Indoor Green Track facility were fellow Bermudians Taylor-Ashley Bean and Akeila Richardson.Bean, who like Dill was competing in only her second indoor meet, came 16th out of 48 runners in the women’s mile in a time of 5:27.24.The youngest of the trio, Richardson took part in the women’s triple jump in her first indoor meet and finished third with a leap of 11.09m.All three youngsters, who are coached by ex-national team head coach Gerry Swan, are vying for positions in the Bermuda squad for the Carifta Games in April. At last year’s Games in Cayman Islands, Dill won a silver medal while Bean and Richardson both claimed bronzes.
