Trio grab medals at CACs
Bermuda’s CAC Age Group Championships team will return home with their heads held high after finishing tenth out of 20 countries at the meet in the British Virgin Islands.The squad of eight captured three medals over the two-day event, two silver and one bronze.Elisha Darrell claimed a silver in the 11 to12 boys’ high jump, while Jordan Bascome also grabbed silver in the 13 to14 girls’ 1000 metres event.Azaire Smith completed the medal haul with a bronze in the 13 to 14 girls’ high jump.Barbados won the team competition with Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago finishing second and third respectively.Athletes from 27 countries took part in the individual events with all of the Bermuda contingent participating in either heptathlon or pentathlon, which combine a number of races and field events .Anasia Barclay placed 16th and Demiqua Daniels 23rd out of the 33 pentathlon competitors in the 11 to 12 girls’ age group.Darrell (12th) and Aaron Jacobs (20th) competed in 11 to 12 boys’ pentathlon while Smith (18th) and Bascome (25th) earned encouraging finishes out of 37 competitors in the 13 to 14 heptathlon.Tez Terry (23rd) and Daiquin Arorash (29th) rounded out the Island team’s performances in the 13 to14 boys’ heptathlon.The pentathlon for the 11 to 12 girls consisted of a 60 metre sprint, 800 metres, long jump, high jump and baseball throw, while the boys competed in the 60m, 1000m, long jump, high jump and baseball throw.The 13 to 14 pentathlon consisted of the 80m, 1000m, 60m hurdles, long jump, high jump, baseball throw and shot put.The 13 to 14 heptahlon saw athletes complete the 80m, 1200m, 80m hurdles, long jump, high jump, baseball throw and shot put.
