Watson to serve on NACAC
Bermuda Track and Field Association (BTFA) president Donna Watson has been elected to serve on the NACAC (North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association) council. At the Association’s annual general meeting on Thursday, Watson joined Alan Baboolal from Trinidad and Geen Clarke from Costa Rica on the council, while president Teddy McCook, of Jamaica, retained his position. The race for presidency was expected to be closely contested between McCook and Keith Joseph of St. Vincent and the Grenadine. But McCook retained his position with a vote of 20 to six.“I was very excited about being elected,” said Watson. “I did not say much before I left as I did not know how it was going to turn out, nor did I do much canvassing as I got so busy with all of the preparation for these international events. I didn’t have time to do anything.“I figured I might get in as they have to have at least two women on the council.“I look forward to serving and think that this is going to be a new learning experience for me. Of course, all of this is to take track and field in Bermuda to a higher level.”The BTFA issued a statement congratulating their president. “We are sure Ms Watson will breathe new life and vigour into the council, just as she has with the BTFA and will serve Bermuda and the council admirably.”
