Duffy grabs a bronze at Canada triathlon
Duffy held off Ellen Pennock to take third place, preventing an all-Canada podium in the process.Vancouver’s Lauren Campbell and Sarah-Anne Brault of Levis, Quebec, won gold and silver respectively, with Campbell making a late surge to win in a time of one hour, four minutes, 42 seconds.She also scooped the 2012 Canadian National Champion award.Brault was next across the line 10 seconds back in a time of 1:04:52 and Duffy finished a further four seconds back in 1:04:56.Duffy was first out of the water ahead of her North American rivals in a time of 8:41, but fell off on the bike after clocking 37:19.Her time of 17:38 on the 5K run was third fastest behind Campbell and Brault, and ensured she grabbed the third and final podium place.Duffy couldn’t have chosen a better time to begin peaking with the Olympics not far off.She’s fresh off two solid showings on the ITU World Triathlon scene, including a maiden World Cup win in Mexico.Duffy won the Elite Women’s crown at the Huatulco ITU event to book her ticket to the London Games.She followed that superb performance with a solid sixth-place finish five days later at the ITU World Triathlon San Diego.Those two performances have boosted the University of Colorado student’s confidence to the point she now considers herself as a legitimate contender among the world’s elite.In the men’s division in Edmonton, Canadian Kyle Jones won in a time of 57 minutes, 33 seconds, beating out fellow Canadian Alexander Hinton by three seconds.American Jarrod Shoemaker (57:41) edging out Tim Don (57:45) of Great Britain for the third spot.
