Dill races into Worlds semi-finals

Eighteen-year-old Shaquille Dill broke the Bermuda junior record in the 800 metres as he stormed his way into this weekend’s semi-finals at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain yesterday.Dill clocked a personal best of one minute, 49.06 seconds. That was more than a second faster than his previous best and enough to beat Aaron Evans’ junior record of 1:49.35.Starting in lane four in the third of seven heats, Dill went on to crack 1:50.00 in the two-lap race. His heat was the fastest of the seven.“I felt really good and it was the strongest field I’ve been in over the last 150 metres of any 800 metres race,” said Dill.Earlier in the week, the Bermuda athlete had competed in the 400 metres at the Championships and missed out on the semi-finals by 0.17 of a second, clocking a time of 47.38. .
