Sakari Famous extended her impressive medal streak at the Carifta Games in Curaçao at the weekend.

The Berkeley Institute student won the bronze in the under-18 high jump to keep her streak of medalling at every Carifta Games she has appeared at alive.

Famous won a third successive bronze and Bermuda’s first in Curaçao in the high jump during Saturday’s morning session with a leap of 1.71 metres.

The promising athlete’s Carifta medal haul now stands at five having also won silver at the 2014 and 2015 Games in Martinique and Bahamas.

Famous captured Bermuda’s only medal at last year’s Carifta Games in Grenada and is one of eight holdovers from last year.

Also standing proudly on the podium on Saturday was Tiara DeRosa who won bronze in the under-20 discus with a new personal best throw of 47.69 metres, breaking Branwen Smith’s national record which has stood for about 39 years.

Bermuda’s athletes also recorded six personal bests to go with the two medals and national record.

Johndell Cumberbatch and Ryan Outerbridge both had personal best times in the under-18 boys 1,500 metres, which is not their stronger event.

Cumberbatch placed fifth overall with his time of 4.22.08 while Outerbridge was seventh overall with his time of 4:33.30.

Sprinters Deneo Brangman and Lejuan Matthews also recorded personal best times in the under-18 400 metres.

Brangman just missed out on qualifying for the finals when he placed ninth overall in the semi-finals with a PB of 49.52 while Matthews ran a time of 51.23 in his heat.

Aaron Jacobs finished third in his under-18 800 metres qualifying heat yesterday in a new personal best time of 1:59.37, which secured the athlete’s spot in the final.

Yesterday also saw Bermuda’s 4x100 metre relay team qualify for the finals.

Bermuda are represented by a squad of 20 athletes in Curaçao which is hosting the Games, which conclude today, for the first time.
