The number of athletes qualifying for the Carifta Games rose from six to 11 in the space of three days after a trio of runners hit the standard at the Armory Youth Championships in New York on Monday.

The Mid Atlantic Athletic Club and Pacers Track Club sent athletes to the event, with Kazhi Sealy and Tommy Marshall comfortably achieving the standard in the under-17 boys’ 3,000 metres. Sealy clocked 9:33.42 while Marshall recorded a time of 9:34.49.

Keturah Bulford Trott qualified in the under-17 girls’ 200 in 25.97. Two other athletes came close at the meet, with Sanaa Re Morris missing the qualifying mark in the under-17 girls’ 200 and 400 and Kayla Raymond a couple of seconds off the qualifying time in the under-17 girls’ 800.

Morris, in the same 200 race as Bulford Trott, recorded a time of 26.34 and 59.16 in the 400. Raymond clocked 2:23.81 in the 800.

Last weekend, Ryan Outerbridge qualified in the under-20 boys’ 5,000 metres. Eleanor Richmond achieved the mark of 36 metres in the under-17 girls’ javelin. High jumper Sakari Famous has also qualified for her sixth and final Carifta Games, depending on her college schedule.

The Games will be held at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in the Cayman Islands from April 20 to 22.
