Tickets for Carifta Games 2020 are now on sale, available online and at two other locations, the Bermuda National Athletics Association announced this week.

Tickets can be purchased at bdatix.bm or at two ticketing centres — Freshmen at the Heron Bay Plaza, and Bermuda Financial Network on 133 Front Street.

The 49th Carifta Games in Bermuda will be held from April 10 to 13.

Twenty-eight will participate in the Games, with events split into morning and evening sessions. Admission is free for the morning sessions. Tickets range from $10 a day in general admission seating to VIP seating in the grandstand at $100 for a three-day pass.

Other seating includes Gold ($60 for a three-day pass or $25 for each day), Silver ($50 for three days or $20 per day) and Bronze ($40 for three day and ($15 per day). The ticket prices will include a small registration fee.

The BNAA is expecting sell-out crowds similar to the Games were last here in 2012. This will be the fifth time Bermuda is hosting the Carifta Games, which started in Barbados in 1972 with 23 events and has featured 66 events since 2002.

“In 2012 we had around 4,000 people per day,” said Donna Raynor, the BNAA president and chairwoman for the Games.

“We are hoping, as we did in 2012, to fill the stadium in the grandstand and general seating. We were sold out each day and had to turn people away.

“This event is gaining momentum and we are excited and gearing up for a great event.”

The medals were unveiled by the BNAA last week, designed by graphic designer Domico Watson, who is the marketing director for the Games. Watson also designed the Carifta Games logo, Facebook and Instagram pages as well as the website, www.carifta2020bda.com, which features a countdown to the opening ceremonies.

Such was the excitement surrounding the 2012 Games, when 55 athletes represented Bermuda on home soil, that a charter flight was arranged to take 150 Bermuda supporters to the 2013 Games in Bahamas.

That 2012 Bermuda team won six medals, including a first gold in eight years when 15-year-old triple jumper Justin Donawa soared to a personal best and a Bermuda meet best of 14.63 metres. Donawa is now a professional footballer in England with Darlington and recently represented Bermuda against Panama in the Concacaf Nations League.

The 50th edition of the Carifta Games will be held in Guyana in 2021, a first for the South American country.
