Jah-Nhai Perinchief breaks meet record in Fayetteville
Bermudian triple jumper Jah-Nhai Perinchief continued in his rich vein of form by setting a meet record en route to another victory on the US indoor circuit on Friday night in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The 24-year-old jumped 16.84 metres (55ft 3in) on his first effort at the Arkansas Qualifier at the Randal Tyson Track Centre, breaking by almost one foot the previous record that had been established by Jamaican Clive Pullen, four years ago.
Perinchief attempted only one more jump in round two, which was a foul, then sat out the rest of the meet as his nine rivals struggled to get within a metre of him.
University of Kansas freshman Jaden Patterson was second on 15.54, with Garry Williams, the University of Oklahoma senior, a close third on 15.52.
Perinchief is coming off a stretch in which he set a world-leading 16.91 at the Tyson Invitational while putting together six jumps in excess of 16 metres — arguably his best all-round meet as a triple jumper — and also finished second to Donald Scott in the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix with 16.55.
