Dage Minors closes NACAC championships for Bermuda with 10th in 1,500
Bermuda’s athletes wrapped up their North American, Central American and Caribbean Track and Field Championships campaign in the Bahamas.
After a successful start to the championships, in which triple jumper Jah-Nhai Perinchief added a silver medal to his recent Commonwealth Games bronze, the remaining three of Bermuda’s ten-member team took to the track.
Competing in the 200 metres, Suresh Black finished third in heat three clocking a time of 21.42sec.
In the final, Andrew Hudson ran a massive personal best of 19.87 to win his first title in Jamaican colours. The American-born sprinter stormed off the curve and powered down the home stretch to beat United States duo Kyree King, in 20.00, and Josephus Lyles, the brother of Noah Lyles, in 20.18.
Dage Minors and Ryan Outerbridge were the last of the Bermuda contingent in action as they both competed in the 1,500.
Wrapping up his season, Minors finished tenth in 3min 55.09sec, with Outerbridge less than ten seconds behind, finishing in 4:03, for fourteenth place.
American Eric Holt claimed gold in a winning time of 3:37.62, narrowly ahead of compatriot Josh Thompson who crossed the line in 3:37.88. Canada’s Charles Philibert-Thiboutot took third to complete the podium places.
At the conclusion of the championships, the US topped the medal table with 29 gold ahead of Jamaica with six, while Canada, Cuba and Guatemala each finished with two.
