Jaeda Grant and Tajahri Rogers capture schools Cross Country titles
Front Street Mile winners Jaeda Grant and Tajahri Rogers picked up more big prizes when winning their races at the Bermuda School Sports Federation Senior School Cross Country Championships at the Arboretum on Thursday.
Saltus Grammar School’s Grant won the under-16 girls race in a time of 13min 32sec with Fenella Wightman of Bermuda High School second in 14:32 and Carina Bortoli, representing Somersfield Academy, third in 15:19. Grant led Saltus to victory in the team event with a total score of 31 ahead of BHS with 57 and The Berkeley Institute with 76.
Rogers posted a big win for CedarBridge Academy when he cruised to victory in the over-16 boys division in a time of 15:59.
That was nearly half a minute quicker than his nearest rivals, the Berkeley Institute pair of J’auza James and Seer Carey.
Warwick Academy and Saltus Grammar both finished with 63 points with Warwick getting the nod in a tie-breaker. Berkeley finished two points further back in third.
Berkeley Institute’s Khari Sharieff led from the start and never saw another runner when winning the under-16 boys race in 11:34.
Somersfield Academy’s Jackson Langley came in twenty seconds later followed by Warwick Academy’s Jake Smith in third with a time of 12:16.
Somersfield Academy took the team honours with 48 points ahead of Saltus Grammar (62) and Warwick Academy (71).
Warwick Academy swept the podium spots in the over-16 girls division with Adriana Argent leading the way in a time of 14:15. Shayla Cann was next to cross the line in 14:34, followed by Daria Desmond in 14:40.
Warwick's first six runners finished in the top seven places, which meant they easily won the team event with an incredible 17 points. Saltus finished second with 60 points, with CedarBridge Academy ending up in third with 64 points.
