Ryan Outerbridge continued his strong start to the new indoor athletics season by helping Franklin Pierce University to an impressive showing at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Championships in Boston.

In total the team finished the two-day even with twelve All-New England award winners, a series of NCAA Provisional performances and a full-length list of new programme records.

All twelve of the All-New England award winners received the accolades as top-eight finishers in their respective events and among them was Bermudian Outerbridge, who was part of the combined 4x800-metre and distance medley relay teams, along with senior Riley Fenoff, and fellow juniors Ryan Walker, Nate Rinaldi and Evan McNeice.

In the 4x800 relay, the team’s finishing time of 7min 44.32sec, enough to secure a bronze medal, was the fifth-fastest recorded indoor relay time in NCAA Division II history, according to the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association.

The latest result follows on from Outerbridge setting a personal-best time in the 5,000 metres when winning the Plymouth Panther Classic in a time of 15min 15.59sec, finishing nearly five seconds ahead of runner-up Sebastien Vicary.

That time slashed nearly 15 seconds off his previous best of 15:30.14, which was set outdoors last season.

“It’s great to keep the good form and strong momentum going with a couple of good relay performances in the distance medley relay and the 4x800 metres,” said the 20-year-old, as he prepares to compete at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invite in Boston this weekend.

“Coming away with the bronze medal in the 4x800 and a 1:54 split shows that I have the speed to run a fast 800m and hopefully a personal best at the weekend.

“Hopefully I can have a good race and use it as a tune-up leading into conferences [Northeast-10 Championships] next week, where I will compete in the distance medley relay, 4x800, and the open mile.”

Also included among the top performances within the team were senior Nyjah Young-Bey in the women's 200 (25.32sec) and 400 (57.43), and junior Stephen Harris in the men's 200 Dash (21.55), with both reaching NCAA provisional standards.

In addition to the All-New England honourees, the event also yielded a New England champion for Franklin Pierce as Nouhayla Errahili clinched victory in the women's high jump with a jump of 1.70 metres.

The victory made her the thirteenth individual in the university’s history to claim a New England title. Errahili's winning height was also good for NCAA provisional standards.

Other notable performances included a fifth-fastest finishing time in the university’s history for the women's 4x800-metre relay, and an all-new program record in the men's weight throw (16.61m) from Connor Everidge.
