Bermuda handed bronze in girls’ under-17 relay after Jamaica disqualification
The Bermuda girls’ under-17 4×100 relay team have been awarded a bronze medal at the Carifta Games after Jamaica were belatedly disqualified.
J’Naz Richards, Pria Wilson, Lashee Jones and Arima Turner had originally finished fourth in a time of 48.12sec on Sunday, to narrowly miss out on the podium as Jamaica claimed gold, ahead of Trinidad & Tobago and Bahamas.
However, the results have now been updated because of Jamaica being disqualified after Natrece East, while running the third leg, was deemed to have infringed by stepping outside of her lane.
The ruling means Trinidad have been awarded the gold and Bahamas silver, with Bermuda consequently claiming the final place of the podium.
As a result, Bermuda move on to three medals overall, after Kahzi Sealey won silver in the 1,500 metres on the opening day of competition on Saturday, with J’Auza James battling his way to bronze in the octathlon on Sunday.
