Carifta athletes face further delays on return home

Bermuda’s Carifta Games athletes have had a long journey home

Bermuda’s Carifta athletes faced further delays on their return to the island.

Originally scheduled to fly home on Tuesday night, poor weather in Miami meant their flight from Bahamas failed to arrive in the United States with sufficient time to make the connecting flight to Bermuda.

The squad, which includes individual medallists Kahzi Sealey, J’Auza James and Jake Brislane, were forced to spend the night in Miami with plans to rebook them on last night’s flight, which was due to depart at 6.59pm local time.

But heavy rain in Miami has resulted in flash flooding and severe delays, with many flights impacted. The athletes did not touch down in Bermuda until well after midnight, more than 24 hours after their original scheduled arrival.
