Jaeda Grant and J’Naz Richards shine but Berkeley win top school at Seniors Finals
Jaeda Grant and J’Naz Richards were the stars of the Senior School athletics finals on Thursday night.
Grant, of Saltus Grammar, who won the 400, 800 and 1500 metres and CedarBridge Academy’s Richards, who was victorious in the 100, 200 and long jump, both picked up a maximum 30 points from their three events to share the top female award in the under-16 age group. Chinae Dickenson-DeSilva, from the Berkeley Institute finished third.
There was also a tie for top honours in the boys under-16 age group with Berkeley Institute’s Khari Sharieff sharing first with Mount Saint Agnes Academy’s Sa-Qui Robinson, with both finishing on 28 points.
Sharieff did most of his good work on the track, winning the 800 metres and finishing second in the 1500, while also coming out best in the high jump. Robinson took the plaudits in the field events, finishing first in the javelin and shop put, and second in the discus. Jake Smith finished third.
Warwick Academy’s Daria Desmond was the clear winner among the over-16 girls, picking up 28 points after winning the 1500 and 3000 metres. She also finished second in the 800. Kesay Bell of CedarBridge Academy finished second with Berkeley Institute’s I’Aura Golding and Saltus’s Katherine Bean Rosario sharing third.
Berkeley Institute athletes dominated the boys over-16 category with the top three performers all attending that school.
Carifta Games medallist J’Auza James won the title with 27 points after winning 1500 metres and placing in the 800 and high jump. Seer Carey finished runner-up on 25 points with Razi Garland third on 24 points.
That clean sweep helped Berkeley Institute to capture the award for top school as they won with a massive 672.37 points, nearly 270 points clear of runners-up CedarBridge Academy. Saltus Grammar, Warwick Academy and Somersfield Academy rounded out the top five.
