Masters Shawn Talley and Andrea Collier share Grand Prix spotlight
Shawn Talley and Andrea Collier hailed a memorable experience after clinching Masters Series success in the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix on Sunday.
While most of the pre-meet attention was focused on the multitude of world-class athletes, including Olympic and World champions, in action at the Flora Duffy Stadium, the senior athletes took their opportunity to steal some of the spotlight
Amid the enthralling action on track, Talley and Collier both caught the eye with dominant displays to seal victory in their respective all-American 200 metres finals.
Collier clocked 25.83sec to win the men’s race ahead of Robert Bowen (28.44) and Andrew Albright (28.63), while Collier was even more commanding in the women’s race, winning in 29.44, comfortably ahead of Roxanne Springer (34.49), with Beverly Ross rounding out the podium places in 37.61.
“To be able to race in Bermuda, what more could you ask for!,” said Talley, who savoured the experience of competing in front of a capacity crowd. “The crowd were great and it was just a brilliant experience overall.”
Those sentiments were echoed by Collier, who lauded the home fans for creating such an exciting atmosphere.
“It was such a great atmosphere with the big crowd here,” said Collier, who won two golds as part of the 4x200 women’s and mixed relay teams at the World Athletics Masters Indoor Championships last month.
“It always feels good to run in front of a crowd that appreciates track and field and I could tell they did, it was a great experience.”
