Bermuda’s top middle-distance runner Dage Minors ended his European tour with a fourth-place finish in the PWR Men’s Elite Mile at the Monumental Mile Classic in Scotland.

Minors put the pace in to the race with a target to dip under four minutes but he faded on the last lap to finish in 4min 2.89sec, a little more than two seconds behind winner Daniel Bebbington.

“The last race was a mile and the aim going into it was to run under four minutes,’’ Minors said.

“It was a good atmosphere and good competition but the pacing was a bit off.

“I had the lead longer than I expected and then, coming into the last lap, there was a bit of a tangle with me and another guy. I finished fourth, which isn't bad, but I definitely felt like I lost an opportunity after getting tangled up.

“That’s how the sport is, it can be unforgiving at times, but it is what it is. I’m not too upset about it, just more of a frustrating feeling.”

Minors missed out breaking his own 1,500 metres national record by 0.12sec last week when finishing sixth in the BMC Watford Gold Standard and is hopeful his performances in the past month will help him to qualify for the Pan American Games, which takes place in Chile between October 20 and November 5.

The 27-year-old is yet to meet the required standard but with eight slots still available through Pan American area ranking, he has a chance to secure a place.

“The whole experience was a good one and the set-up at the British Miler’s Club is very good,” Minors said.

“The whole plan was to come here and boost my ranking, hopefully enough to qualify for the Pan Am Games, but we will find out in a few weeks.

“It’s unfortunate but my time over here summed up my season completely in a way. There has been tons of highs in the season, including going under four minutes early in the year, winning the bronze medal at the CAC Games and then running close to my national record last week.

“I’m definitely just a little frustrated that little things got in the way this year like getting sick, bit of injuries, and then tactical mistakes. That’s the sport, it’s not every day you run your best but I have definitely learnt a lot and am moving forward.’’
