Jessica Lewis finishes sixth in Parapan Am Games 800 metres final
Jessica Lewis continued her Parapan Am Games campaign when finishing sixth in the women’s combined 800 metre T53/54 final in Santiago, Chile.
The 30-year-old wheelchair sprinter, who finished fifth in the T53/54 400 metres final on Tuesday, crossed the line in 2min 8.37sec, less than seven seconds adrift of the medal places, with Brazil’s Venessa De Souza taking bronze in 1:55.28.
De Souza’s compatriot Aline Dos Santos clinched gold in a winning time of 1:48.34, ahead of Hannah Dederick, of the United States (1:49.81).
All three medal winners compete at the T54 disability sports classification for athletes of a higher function to Lewis’s T53 classification.
Lewis will now turn her attention to her favoured 100 metres on Saturday, when she will be going in search of a third successive Pan Am Games gold medal.
With the race set to be contested by only T53 athletes, Lewis will be confident of adding to her triumphs in Toronto in 2015 and Lima in 2019, setting Parapan Am Games records on both occasions.
