Sprinter Caitlyn Bobb has expressed her delight over her latest record-breaking exploits.

Competing for the University of Maryland Baltimore County in the season-opening Navy Invitational at Wesley A Brown Field House in Annapolis, Maryland, the 20-year-old sprinter led the field across the line in the women’s 500 metres, with her time of 1min 12.93sec eclipsing the national indoor record she already held.

“I was quite pleased with my time,” said Bobb, whose time over the distance was the second-fastest in her school’s history.

“My goal heading into the race was to hit 1:11 or 1:12 as I wanted to set a realistic but achievable goal for the first meet back.

“I would have preferred to hit 1:12.30 or below, but it is the season opener. This season is going to be a good one.”

Bobb’s time was all the more impressive as her race strategy did not go exactly as planned.

“Going Into the race I was hoping for someone to push me, but when that didn’t happen I knew it was me against the clock,” Bobb told The Royal Gazette.

“It is harder to hit a time by yourself, but I was able to do it by the grace of God. The race plan was simple; get out hard and run the race.”

Bobb also anchored her school’s team to the bronze medal in the 4x400 metres relay event at the indoor track meet last Saturday.

The 2021 junior female athlete of the year and multiple Carifta Games medal-winner is now looking forward to building on her latest showing as she continues to work towards her goals.

“Based off the race, I know my weaknesses and have about a month until the next meet to fine tune them,” said Bobb, who also holds the national women’s indoor 400 metres record which stands at 54.21sec.

The talented athlete has enjoyed considerable success throughout her burgeoning career after winning gold medals in the 200 and 400 metres at the NACAC under-18 and under-23 championships and AAU Indoor Championships.
