Lima replaces Barranquilla as host of 2027 Pan Am Games
The city of Lima will host the Pan American Games in 2027
,The Peruvian capital was chosen ahead of Asuncion in Paraguay after both cities announced their bids last month in the wake of Colombian city Barranquilla being stripped of the right to host after failing to meet contractual obligations.
Lima was chosen by 28 votes out of 52 to host the Games for the second time after 2019.
"I want to highlight the transparency of the process and the brotherhood of both nations that competed healthily for the right to host the 2027 Pan American Games," said Neven Ilic, president of Panam Sports .
"I want to congratulate the president of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Renzo Manyari, for this tremendous achievement.
"A few years ago, they [Peru] shook an entire continent with excitement and today, with more experience and spectacular infrastructure, they want to repeat or improve the success achieved in 2019.
“I also take this opportunity to congratulate Paraguay and its NOC president Camilo Perez. They are doing a great job with Paraguayan sport and their athletes, so my call is for them to continue growing and developing.
“They have a tremendous challenge ahead of them with the Junior Pan American Games in 2025, where I am sure they will be a great host for the entire continent.”
The previous edition of the Games was held last year in Santiago, Chile, where Bermuda claimed its tenth ever medal courtesy of Conor White’s stunning ride to win bronze in the cycling time-trial.
