Jake Brislane won bronze medal at Carifta

Jake Brislane has picked up Bermuda’s first track and field medal at the 2024 Carifta Games in Grenada.

Brislane won bronze in the under-20 boys 1,500 metres in a pulsating finish in which the first three home were separated by just 0.7 seconds.

The 19-year-old also broke four minutes for the first time coming home in a fantastic 3min 58.83sec to claim his place on the podium behind Jamaican duo Kemarrio Bygrave (3:58.10) and Jaquan Coke (3:58.38).

Brislane was shoulder to shoulder with Bygrave turning into the final straight and gave it his all on his way to his second Carifta medal after he won bronze in the 5,000 metres last year.

On a great night of athletics, the world’s greatest sprinter Usain Bolt saw his 400m under-17 boys Carifta record broken after 22 years.

The record still resides in Jamaica after Bolt’s mark of 47.33sec was lowed to 47.27sec by Nickecoy Bramwell.
