Teenager in ICU after road accident

A 16-year-old boy was today in intensive care in hospital after a crash on Monday night.

Another teenager was also injured in the accident just before 11.30pm.

A police spokesman said: “Police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision involving a motorcar, near the junction of Knapton Hill and Idle Acres Road, Smith’s.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered two of the four occupants, both males, aged 16 and 17, were injured in the collision.

“The 16-year-old, who was unresponsive, remained trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by personnel from Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service.”

“Both injured parties were transported via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment to their injuries.

“At last check, the 16-year-old remained unresponsive and is warded in the hospital’s intensive care unit. The 17-year-old was attended to for a leg injury and discharged.

“The driver of the vehicle, which was extensively damaged, was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst impaired, but subsequently passed the breath test.”
