Man followed by police dies after road crash
A man who apparently lost control of his motorbike and crashed while being followed by the police has died of his injuries.
It is the island’s seventh road fatality this year.
A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service said officers were conducting laser checks near Port Royal Fire Station just after midnight on Sunday when they clocked a motorcycle being ridden by a male travelling west at 79kph .
A police spokesman said: “Officers turned on their emergency lights and followed at a distance, due to the speed at which the rider was travelling.
“On arrival at the top of Scaur Hill, they observed the rider appeared to lose control and fell off the bike, which was subsequently found to have been stolen.
“The injured man was transported via ambulance for treatment to his injuries and warded in the Intensive Care Unit, at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where sadly, he this morning succumbed to his injuries.”
