The Route 8 bus will be detoured on Saturday and Sunday, August 6 and 7, owing to Middle Road, Southampton being closed between Riviera Road and Rebecca Road for Belco trench work.

Inbound and outbound Route 8 Somerset buses and Route 8 Dockyard buses will detour via South Shore Road between Paget stop lights and Barnes Corner.

On Saturday only, Middle Road will be serviced by Cedar Hill buses leaving Hamilton. The farthest point that the bus can travel along Middle Road and still have the space to turn around is the former TN Tatem Middle School.

The bus is too large to continue on Middle Road and turn around closer to the trench. It will depart the former school as Route 8 Hamilton, reversing the route.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Public Transportation said: “Journey times on Route 8 will be affected by the detours.

“Belco has advised that the road will reopen on Monday at 7am. The Department of Public Transportation thanks the public for their continued patience.”
