Video gamers around the world are now able to visit a detailed recreation of LF Wade International Airport through Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Players of the award-winning PC and Xbox game, which used satellite imagery to recreate the world, have been able to fly to and from Bermuda since the game originally launched in August 2020.

However, the satellite imagery used lacked up-close detail, with only a few global landmarks and airports fully recreated, leading Microsoft and other developers to create a series of optional paid and free downloadable add-ons.

Those add-ons now include a purchasable recreation of LF Wade International Airport, created by developer FeelThere, which offers a detailed replication of Bermuda’s airport.

Lilla Racz, who runs FeelThere with her husband, Victor Racz, said the family company has worked on flight simulation software, scenery and models since 2002.

“Bermuda is on our bucket list to visit one day,” she said. “We love to travel to tropical islands and discover paradise. I think this is the number one reason why we selected this airport.”

A spokesman for Skyport said yesterday: “The imagery and attention to detail shown for the LF Wade International Airport and surrounding area in the new Microsoft Flight Simulator are amazing.

“This is great for aviation enthusiasts.”

The recreated LF Wade International Airport includes two custom modelled passenger terminals — the old terminal building and the new terminal building — one cargo terminal and 11 taxiways.

The model also includes an improved model for the Causeway and the adjacent Welcome to Bermuda sign.

Mrs Racz added that the company also works on a traffic control simulator, Tower!3D Pro, which they hope to build into a training tool in partnership with the Hampton University Department of Aviation.

“We decided to target smaller, secluded airports like LF Wade International Airport and the Cyril E. King Airport in St Thomas to bring an affordable solution and opportunity to these smaller islands to train their future air traffic controllers on,” she said.

“This is probably our second main reason, and we keep selecting these islands, which we'd also love to visit one day and get a sneak peek at — maybe on airport operations as well.”
