St George’s ferry route to be suspended for winter
Only days after the St George’s ferry service was restored after repairs to a dock, it is coming to an end.
But a government spokesman has reassured businesses in the old town that a supplementary ferry schedule will run while cruise ships are visiting Dockyard.
Nine cruise ship visits to Dockyard are scheduled for November and four are due to visit in December. There are also four visits to Hamilton and St George’s.
The autumn and winter ferry schedule will come into effect on Monday, meaning the orange route, which runs between Dockyard and St George, will be suspended until the spring.
But a Government spokesman said last night: “The service will run the same as the orange route service provided over the summer.”
The blue route, which runs between Dockyard and the City of Hamilton, will reduce its weekday trips from 11 to seven. The first trip will leave Hamilton at 7.30am and the final one will leave at 4.30pm.
The blue route’s weekend and holiday runs will be decrease from seven trips to six, with the first ferry leaving the city at 9am and the final one departing at 4.45pm.
The green route, which services Watford Bridge, Cavello Bay and Rockaway ferry stops Monday through Friday, is unchanged for the fall and winter.
The pink route will also remain the same. This route picks up passengers at Salt Kettle, Darrell’s Wharf and Belmont Monday through Friday.
