Owner and Government working to try and move boat washed ashore in Hurricane Fiona
A charter boat owner is working with the Government to move the vessel after it was washed ashore months ago during a hurricane, marine and ports services said.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has also deployed a boom around the Cortina, which was washed aground at Port Island near Warwick, to contain any oil leakage.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Marine and Ports Services said that the Bermuda Coastguard was also monitoring the Cortina.
She said: "The Department of Marine and Ports Services is working with the owner to help facilitate the removal of the vessel and mitigate any environmental pollution.
“The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has placed absorbent boom around the vessel for containment of oil sheen and the owner is currently advancing the boom maintenance.
“The Bermuda Coastguard has also assisted in the deployment of the boom and they monitor the vessel when on patrol."
Cortina, a 73ft motor yacht, was washed ashore at Port Island during Hurricane Fiona last September.
It was unclear at the time what sort of damage the vessel had sustained.
