Keep a safe distance between vehicles says Road Safety Council
The Bermuda Road Safety Council is urging drivers to keep the proper distance behind other vehicles to prevent rear-end collisions.
A BRSC spokesman said: “A safe following distance is one of the golden rules of being a smart driver.
“It helps you maintain a steady speed and gives you time and space to decelerate or accelerate smoothly when needed.
“It also provides an escape route if you need to get out of trouble.”
The traffic code handbook advises that a safe distance between two vehicles leaves a gap of at least two seconds, which should be doubled in wet conditions and at night.
The spokesman said: “If you find yourself in a situation where the vehicle behind you is too close we advise you to pull over and allow them to pass you.
“Remain calm and don’t allow your emotions to get the better of you, instead, stay in control of the vehicle so that you can drive safely.”
