Robert Simmons named as fourth road fatality of the year

A 55-year-old man who lost his life after a road collision two weeks ago has today been named by police.

Officers found Robert CA Simmons unresponsive and lying face down in the roadway near the junction of South Road and Tribe Road Number Two in Warwick, at around 10am on Wednesday February 22.

Mr Simmons was immediately taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead a short time later.

A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said: “A taxi was headed west when Mr Simmons, who was travelling east, reportedly drifted into the westbound lane and collided with the front of the taxi.

“There were reports the victim appeared to have experienced a medical episode before crossing lanes and becoming involved in the collision.

“However, an autopsy has subsequently confirmed that his death was due to injuries sustained in the collision.”

Mr Simmons’ death is the fourth road fatality for 2023.

The BPS extends their condolences to Mr Simmons’ family and loved ones at this time.

According to his funeral notice, Mr Simmons was survived by his wife, four children and eight grandchildren and his funeral was on Saturday.
