Powerboats and jet skis will this year feature alongside cars and bikes in a motor festival on Front Street.

The annual Scooter Mart Bermuda Charge event on July 2, named Motor Fest 441, also gets some star power with Netflix celebrity and professional driver Constance Nunes as guest judge.

Ms Nunes, internationally known from Car Masters: Rust to Riches, will assess customised motorcycles and cars alongside a team of Bermudian judges, before presenting the winners with the coveted Best in Show trophies.

A professional driver, she has hosted and judged at top events including the giant Specialty Equipment Market Association show, the Wekfest car showcase and Motorama.

Ms Nunes’s visit is supported by the Bermuda Tourism Authority, which has approved Motor Fest 441 under its official Tourism Experience Investment Programme.

David Cahill, organiser of the show, said there was “nowhere else in the world that decorates motorcycles like Bermuda”.

“It has been my mission to make the island famous for its charming and colourful bikes, which are so lovingly painted and customised within the community,” he said.

“Reaching out and collaborating with Ms Nunes is a big step forward in achieving that goal — it's a great accomplishment.

“Her presence is a testament to the high quality of the festival, its international appeal and the outstanding craftsmanship on display from talented Bermudian car and bike owners."

Ms Nunes has also competed in high-profile races, including the Targa Trophy and the Gumball 3000 Rally.

Mr Cahill said it would show off “the unique decorative nature of Bermuda's motor culture, especially when it comes to motorcycles, scooters and mopeds”.

“The national policy of one car per household means that as a nation, we engage with bikes; it is inevitable.

“And the 150cc limit means we only have small bikes to work with, so our creative expression must be more thoughtful, more authentic.”

He added that limited access to spare parts had honed the island’s automotive artistry.

"We are celebrating Bermuda's motoring history and heritage, creating vivid memories for locals and visitors alike, who take home photographs, footage and stories of their rich and colourful experiences at the festival."

The free festival, accompanied by entertainment and food, has teamed up with the Bermuda Power Boat Association to bring jet ski and powerboat racing to Hamilton Harbour on the day of the show.

Green transport and sustainable technology will also go on show with the Greenlight Energy Eco Village — with the charity Greenrock to benefit from the close of the show.

The 441 title, a nod to Bermuda’s area code, will feature in the number of participants planned for the end-of-show charity ride-out.

The show opens at noon and ends at 5.45pm, running from the Birdcage to the Cargo Docks on Front Street.

Tickets to compete for Best in Show or to enter the charity ride-out start at $36 and are sold at Scooter Mart locations, online at the event website or through the PTIX site.
