Cup Match revellers urged to respect the roads

The Road Safety Council and CADA, which encourages responsible alcohol behaviour, have joined forces to promote safer driving over Cup Match

A safe driving initiative has been launched for motorists to avoid ‘Cup Match fever’.

The Bermuda Road Safety Council and CADA, which encourages responsible alcohol behaviour, are motorists to act responsibly as the national celebration approaches.

Complimentary minibus shuttle services will be provided on August 4, between St George’s Cricket Club and Fort Hamilton to ticket holders of the event as part of the road safety initiative.

And complimentary taxi rides will be provided following the event from midnight to 4am through the taxi booking app, Hitch.

Anthony Santucci, CADA executive director said: “We are excited to collaborate with the BRSC to offer the ‘Let Us Drive’ programme and provide safe transportation options for attendees of the ‘Cup Match fever’ event.

"With the support of our sponsors, we are able to provide convenient transportation alternatives that can contribute to a safer experience for all attendees."

Dennis Lister III, BRSC chairman said: “The holiday is a time to celebrate and socialise, but it should be done in a safe and responsible manner.

“Taking a risk to drive while impaired, is an avoided one and we implore all motorist to put in action a plan to ensure they get home safely.

“Remember, chance takers are accident makers.

“We encourage all partygoers to take advantage of the transport provided and plan a safe way home. We wish the public an enjoyable and safe holiday, while being responsible.”

The BRSC has also called on students who want to serve as ambassadors and peer leaders to apply for Junior Road Safety Council positions
