Island Construction this afternoon prepared one of its own cranes for removal after it collapsed into a storage yard below the intersection of St John’s Road and Cedar Avenue in Pembroke.

About five cranes have been summoned to help pull the vehicle out of the work site.

The afternoon was spent clearing brush and making way for the crane.

It is unknown how long it will take for the crane to be removed, or the level of damage it has sustained.

The accident occurred at around 2.30pm yesterday after the road gave way as the crane passed over it.

St John’s Road between its Cedar Avenue and Langton Hill junctions have been cut off to the public until repairs have been completed — a feat that, according to the Ministry of Public Works, may not be completed until the end of October.
