West End traffic to face two months of disruption
Motorists are advised to use caution in the coming months, as a section of main road in Sandys will be limited to one lane of traffic.
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Public Works said the closure, which will be in place from August 28 until early November, will affect the westbound lane from 125 Somerset Road to its junction with Lantana Road, so that walls in the area can be repaired.
She explained: “[Repairs include] identifying and proactively addressing hazardous infrastructure.
“This particular area was flagged as part of the ministry’s review, as the structure has deteriorated over the years.”
Ministry representatives will manage the traffic throughout the closure with temporary lights and “stop” and “go” signs during rush hours.
Highlighting the inconvenience this may cause to residents in the West End, the spokeswoman added: “Persons are urged and cautioned to use patience, particularly during the morning and afternoon rush-hour commutes.
“If needed, commuters should factor in early departure times to their daily routes so they aren’t adversely inconvenienced.”
