Direct service between Bermuda and Washington will return in April, American Airlines announced yesterday.

The airline said that the service was set to resume to Washington Reagan National Airport on April 4, 2024.

A spokeswoman said: “With this service, next April American will operate up to 35 weekly flights at BDA from its hubs in Charlotte, New York, Miami, Philadelphia and DCA, strengthening its position as the largest US airline in Bermuda.”

American Airlines had offered a seasonal service to Washington, which is listed as a focus city in the National Tourism Plan. However, those flights were halted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the recently published flight schedule for November, American Airlines service to Miami is scheduled to start again on November 5 with daily flights.

However, the airline will conclude its summer service between the island and Philadelphia on the same date.

American Airlines will continue to offer daily flights to both New York JFK and Charlotte throughout the month.

British Airways is also set to cut back its schedule for the winter, reducing service between Bermuda and London from a daily service to five days a week with no flights on Tuesday or Saturday.

Service between Bermuda and Toronto will also be reduced as Air Canada will go from four weekly flights to three.

JetBlue will continue its direct service to Boston with four flights per week, while Delta service to both New York JFK and Atlanta remains unchanged.

BermudAir is scheduled to continue its service to Westchester New York throughout November with 12 flights per week, in addition to six weekly flights to both Boston and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
