Pink Route’s Georgia remains out of service for repairs
A public ferry that ran aground in October remains out of service for maintenance, the Department of Marine and Ports Services said.
Responding to queries from The Royal Gazette, the department said that the Georgia, which experienced a mechanical failure as she approached Salt Kettle on October 25, needs more repairs before she can resume service for passengers in Warwick and Paget.
The Department of Marine and Ports added: “Further diagnostic checks are to take place on the gearbox to determine the overhaul.
“The vessel will remain out of service until repairs are completed.”
Corona has been servicing passengers along the Pink Route since the incident. It will continue to be used until Georgia is repaired.
Coralita, which has also been used on the Pink Route, is at present on land in Dockyard and has been out of service for about five months.
Marine and Ports said Coralita’s engine was removed and its power unit overhauled. The next step involves “placing the vessel in water and installing engine, auxiliary and accessory components”.
Other government vessels that have been damaged include the Faithful, a tugboat that broke its mast while berthing a cruise ship in Dockyard last November, and the St David, a pilot boat that ran aground during a training exercise in May 2021.
