A woman was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving after she suffered injuries in a single-vehicle crash in Southampton last night.

The Bermuda Police Service said in a post on social media that officers attended the scene near the junction of Middle Road and Granaway Lane shortly after 9.30pm.

The post said: “The female driver of the motor car was reportedly travelling in a westerly direction along Middle Road, when she attempted to negotiate a right-hand bend on the roadway.”

The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a nearby wall, which resulted in the vehicle overturning.

“The driver sustained what were thought to be serious injuries as she was in and out of consciousness.

“She was taken via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for further treatment for her injuries, which were determined to be not as significant as first thought and discharged.

“She was subsequently arrested and bailed on suspicion of impaired driving.”

There were delays owing to the crash and traffic was diverted on to the Railway Trail.

The police added: “We wish to thank the public for their understanding and co-operation while the scene was forensically processed and the roadway cleared.”

An investigation was started and anyone with information was asked to e-mail Pc Stephen Allen at sallen@bps.bm or call the main police number, 295-0011.
