Middle Road lane closure at Jews Bay for four weeks
Work to repair a collapsed wall in Southampton will result in the closure of the eastbound lane on Middle Road at Jews Bay for a month.
The Ministry of Public Works announced the single-lane closure today.
Police were sent to a report of a wall collapse at about 5pm yesterday, when traffic was diverted to allow government crews to assess the damage.
The ministry said that the road will be closed from today until March 1.
It added: “The Ministry of Public Works representatives will be closing the eastbound lane from property [number] 179 to property 181 with barricades, traffic lights and signs.
“Motorists travelling from the west are encouraged to use alternative routes via South Road or Church Road to avoid this lane closure.
“Motorists travelling from the east are encouraged to use alternative routes via South Road or Lighthouse Road to avoid this lane closure.
“The Ministry of Public Works encourages the full co-operation of the public and apologises for any inconvenience that may result.”
Any questions about the works can be directed to Tina Beer-Searle, the ministry’s principal highways engineer, on 501-3044.
