A passenger in a truck involved in an accident in Southampton yesterday morning has been released from hospital after suffering injuries to his legs.

The collision took place at about 7am near the junction with Middle Road and Granaway Lane. Traffic was reduced to one lane for approximately 1½ hours, with delays for morning commuters in the area, until the damaged vehicles could be cleared.

Police have said that the accident appeared to have occurred after the truck ran into the back of a stationary trailer being towed by a heavy truck stopped in the westbound lane.

A police spokesman said today: “At the time, the heavy truck and trailer were stationary while a small crane was unloaded into the nearby bus lay-by.

“The passenger of the light truck, said to be a 44-year-old male guest worker, was temporarily trapped in that vehicle before being extricated by firefighters.

“It is understood that after transport to hospital via ambulance, he received treatment for injuries to his legs and was later discharged. No one else was hurt in the collision.”

Inquiries are continuing, and any witnesses are asked to contact Pc Ryan Swan on 211 or e-mail rswan@bps.bm.
