Sewer problem results in traffic disruption on Point Finger Road
Motorists were advised this morning that traffic diversions were in place on Point Finger Road, Paget, next to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
A statement from the Corporation of Hamilton said there was a “significant sewer issue”.
It added: “Relevant agencies are on site addressing the situation.
“Motorists are advised to expect delays and to seek alternative routes where possible.
“Businesses and residents in the affected area should take all necessary precautions.
“The corporation is working diligently to resolve the issue and restore normal traffic flow as quickly as possible.
“We appreciate your co-operation and understanding during this time and will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
A spokeswoman for the Bermuda Hospitals Board said services at KEMH were not affected by the issue.
The spokeswoman said: “Services of Bermuda Hospitals Board, including the ambulances, have not been negatively impacted by the crack in the Corporation of Hamilton’s outfall sewer pipeline.
“Corporation officials immediately briefed us on the situation and keep us updated on the progress of their works.”
In June 2022, a broken sewage main caused a partial closure of Point Finger Road, with residents complaining of foul smells in the area.
• UPDATE: this article has been updated to show that Bermuda Hospitals Board services were not affected
