Traffic will be affected in two parishes next month
A race and scheduled repairs will affect traffic in Devonshire and Pembroke on the first weekend of next month, the Ministry of Public Works announced.
A ministry statement said Cavendish Road and Spurling Hill in Hamilton will be reduced to one lane of traffic beginning on May 4, so traffic lights in the area can be improved.
The phased work will take place from 7am to 7pm daily and is scheduled to be completed by June 10.
City employees will manage traffic in the area with signs, cones and barricades.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution , or detour in and out of Hamilton via Happy Valley Road, St John’s Road, Parsons Road, Palmetto Road and North Shore Road.
The Sir Stanley Burgess 5K race will also affect traffic on May 5.
The event will begin at the Clyde Best Centre of Excellence on CedarBridge Lane in Devonshire at 8am, and is scheduled to conclude at the same location at about 9.30am.
Participants will first head to Frog Lane, Old Military Road, Parsons Lane and left on Palmetto Road.
They will continue to Marsh Folly Road near Blackwatch Pass, go back onto Palmetto Road and Frog Lane to the finish.
Race marshals will manage traffic along the route, but the roads will remain open.
“The Bermuda Police are hereby authorised to close-off streets or portions of streets and authorise parking as the Commissioner of Police decides,” the statement said.
The ministry encouraged the public’s co-operation and apologised for any inconvenience.
