Man, 23, dies after traffic collision in Warwick
A 23-year-old man involved in a collision between a motorcycle and a truck yesterday has died, a police spokesman has confirmed.
The collision took place at about 9am at the junction of Khyber Pass and Smiths Avenue in Warwick.
“Police, Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service as well as ambulance personnel responded to the scene,” the spokesman said.
“Apparently the truck was being driven down Khyber Pass and the motorcycle was being ridden in the same direction, when the truck made a right turn to enter Smiths Avenue.
“The rider struck the truck, then a wall. He was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by ambulance but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
“The death of the 23-year-old man, who is understood to have been a Pembroke resident, marks Bermuda’s second road fatality of 2024.”
The spokesman added that the rider’s identity would be announced in due course and a family liaison officer had been assigned to provide support to his family.
The driver of the truck and a passenger were not injured in the collision but the driver was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Traffic in the area was diverted for approximately four hours while the collision site was processed.
Any witnesses to the collision are encouraged to call the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788 as soon as possible.
