The island’s public transport system has come under the microscope of Cayman Islands officials hoping to make improvements to their own network.

Alicia de Vries and Andrew Ashton, who are serving with the Cayman Islands Government on secondment from the UK Department for Transport, met Wayne Furbert, the Minister of Transport, and other officials to explore how Bermuda could be used as a model for the Caribbean island.

The meetings, which came at the request of the Cayman Islands, focused on Bermuda's public transportation infrastructure, including buses, ferries and public service vehicles.

The regulatory frameworks supporting each component of the transport system was reviewed.

After the talks, Mr Furbert said: "The ministry team were pleased to host the meeting.

“The visit strengthened bilateral relations and set the stage for continued co-operation and promising opportunities for future collaboration.

“We are preparing for a forthcoming visit by Johany ‘Jay’ Ebanks, Minister of Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport and Development for the Cayman Islands, in the coming months."
