Races and an annual parade will result in roads throughout the island being closed on Bermuda Day, the Ministry of Public Works announced.

A ministry spokesman said the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Cycle Race and the half-marathon derby will begin on Somerset Road near Warren Simmons community field, heading to Middle Road and Burnt House Hill.

Participants will continue to Harbour Road, The Lane and Crow Lane, with cyclists finishing at Elliott Street in Hamilton.

Half-marathon runners will continue to Cedar Avenue, Marsh Folly Road, Dutton Avenue and finish on North Street.

Those competing in the Junior Classic run will start in Hamilton, head on to Cedar Avenue to Marsh Folly Road and also finish on North Street.

The spokesman added: “All traffic, including cyclists but excluding official vehicles, Department of Transportation buses and emergency vehicles, will be diverted off the race routes between 7.30am and noon.

“Depending on the situation, the Bermuda Police Service may allow traffic to travel in the opposite direction of the race runners, except on Burnt House Hill, Harbour Road, and The Lane between Stowe Hill and Crow Lane Roundabout.”

The Bermuda Day parade will take place after the races and is set to begin in Hamilton, continue to Cedar Avenue and Marsh Folly Road and finish on Dutton Avenue at about 6pm.

Parking will be restricted along Harbour Road, Stowe Hill, throughout Hamilton, Pitts Bay Road, The Lane, Dutton Avenue and portions of North Street, Marsh Folly Road, Cedar Avenue and Black Watch Pass during these events.

Residents may be able to access some restricted areas during this time.

The spokesman added: “The Bermuda Police Service is authorised to close streets or parts of streets and manage parking as needed.

“The ministry appreciates the public's understanding and co-operation during these events.”
