Car goes up in flames after crash in Smith’s

A driver escaped with minor injuries after she crashed her car and it burst into flames on Sunday night.

The 24-year-old woman drove into a wall on Middle Road near the junction with Store Hill at about 10pm.

A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service said: “The vehicle overturned and landed on its side before it caught on fire and the driver was able to exit the vehicle before it became engulfed.”

The woman was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and treated for an arm injury. She was later discharged.

The spokesman said: “Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire which left the vehicle a write-off.”

Traffic was diverted at the junction of Middle Road and Hermitage Road, as well as Middle Road and Store Hill, while the crash scene was processed.
